After four inspiring days in France<\/strong>, the Trade Navigation Tour (TNT)<\/strong> sailed south, reaching Viveiro, Spain<\/strong>, on 24 September 2025<\/strong>. This stage of the tour immersed participants in the Galician coast<\/strong>, a region renowned for its rich maritime identity, where fishing traditions, aquaculture, and cultural heritage continue to shape local communities and tourism experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout Viveiro<\/strong>, San Cibrao<\/strong>, and Burela<\/strong>, the TNT highlighted the unique intersection between fishing<\/strong>, shipbuilding<\/strong>, and maritime traditions<\/strong>. The day kicked off with a visit to the fish auction market in Celeiro<\/strong>, one of the most significant markets in northern Spain. This was followed by a guided tour titled \u201cWood and the Sea in the Life of its People\u201d<\/em> with ACD MAR<\/strong>, which included stops at the Fra Shipyards<\/strong> and the Provincial Maritime Museum<\/strong>. These visits reinforced the connection between fishing<\/strong>, maritime heritage<\/strong>, and tourism<\/strong>, illustrating how coastal communities can transform their historical practices into distinctive, sustainable tourism experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mentoring and Strategy Sessions in Vilagarc\u00eda de Arousa<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

On 25 September<\/strong>, the TNT continued its journey to Vilagarc\u00eda de Arousa<\/strong>, where mentor Lanzada Calatayud<\/strong> led the third mentoring session aboard the La Peregrina boat<\/strong>. The session introduced the 5 Whys methodology<\/strong>, a problem-solving approach that helps participants explore challenges, identify root causes, and develop effective strategic solutions. Key topics included improving visitor experiences<\/strong>, multilingual communication<\/strong>, and preserving traditional maritime techniques<\/strong>, helping participants focus on sustainable solutions for their local initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Knowledge Transfer and Community Engagement<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The tour then moved to Vilagarc\u00eda de Arousa<\/strong> on 26 September<\/strong>, for an event focused on education<\/strong>, knowledge transfer<\/strong>, and community involvement<\/strong>. The day featured a shellfish harvesting workshop<\/strong> with the AMARCARRIL Shellfish Gatherers\u2019 Association<\/strong>, where students from CEIP Pluriling\u00fce Rosal\u00eda de Castro School<\/strong> learned directly from local shellfish gatherers about sustainable practices and the cultural significance of maritime activities. This immersive experience underscored the role of education<\/strong> and tourism<\/strong> in preserving heritage and strengthening the bond between the sea and local communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later on 26 September<\/strong>, the TNT reached Baiona<\/strong>, where local officials, including Jes\u00fas V\u00e1zquez Almu\u00ed\u00f1a<\/strong>, Mayor of Baiona<\/strong>, and Javier Touza<\/strong>, President of FUNDAMAR<\/strong>, highlighted the importance of initiatives like FISATUR<\/strong> in preserving maritime heritage, supporting aquaculture<\/strong>, and integrating these sectors into tourism diversification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
